Every month I send a print, zine, or piece of art to my Catdroool Club subscribers. They give me $6/month and can join or cancel at anytime. Doing Catdroool Club has added a fun challenge to my art practice every month. It implores me to look inward and make art from an authentic place. They’re like little art timestamps that mark seasons in nature, seasons of life.
For June, I originally set out to make a zine about all the things I love about summer. There’s nothing quite like Chicago summer. However, when I dove in, it wasn’t clicking for some reason. I could see summer unfolding all around me, but I wasn’t quite feeling it yet. I’m going through a bit of a depressive season right now, and to honor authenticity, I opted to make something about that instead.
It’s a weird feeling to feel somewhat depressed during the onset of maybe the best season of the year. The sun alone brings me so much joy. It’s ok though. When I’m feeling depressed I remind myself that everything is temporary and to stay in the present.
I’m hoping July is feeling better so that I can make some special art about all the things I do love about Chicago summer, like: jumping in the lake, backyard hangs, Palmer Square Art Fair, flowers blooming, and again– the sun. Let’s give it up for the sun!!! ✹
If you join Catdroool Club before tomorrow – 6/21, you can get this risograph print. After that, any remaining prints will be available for purchase for $18 until they run out.
Thanks always for reading and for your support. Be kind to yourself.
