Every summer some friends I go to a little house near Union Pier, Michigan. It’s only 2 hours from Chicago, but it’s a perfect escape. The house is nestled on a quiet gravel road surrounded by trees. There’s a fire pit, bunk beds, and barely any cell service. We enjoy swimming in the Michigan side of Lake Michigan for a weekend, climbing sand dunes, and eating local ice cream. Some years, like this year, the waves are huge. There were endless, huge waves crashing onto the shore from all different directions. We waded cautiously in the water with our floaties, keeping a close eye on the shore and feeling in awe of the power of the water.
Waves remind me of one of the first things my therapist taught me: “nothing lasts forever.” Things come and go, just like the waves. Sometimes they’re huge, and insurmountable, sometimes they’re calm and peaceful, and most times they’re somewhere in between.
This month’s Catdroool Club print is all about this. It’s comforting to know bad things don’t last forever– we are more resilient than we think. Good things don’t last forever either– it’s a good reminder to be present and cherish simple joys that go unnoticed, often hovering right under our noses.
