I have been in Puebla now for 2 weeks and I’m thoroughly enjoying it. I’m loving the city, making art, and expanding my creativity. Last week I aimed to make 20 images a day, and it really helped me dump out a lot of ideas that have been stored inside me for some time. I also explored new pathways, feelings, and ideas I couldn’t have predicted by doing this. Here are some images from this week.
This week, I made images again, but instead of making 20 a day, I made a few, and focused more of my energy on my art pieces on apparel. My project deals with the overlapping themes of trauma, consent, SA, queerness, non-binary embodiment, and how these all relate to clothing. Here are some of the pieces I’ve started while being here.
More of these to come, I’m having a lot of fun. :)
I also had my second meeting with my mentor, and we reviewed the readings I was to complete. Each week I am assigned academic readings to discuss in my following meeting. They are very dense and not always enjoyable to read, however some are more interesting than others.
I really enjoyed reading “The Imaginary Orient” by Linda Nochlin, which is a chapter in the book, “The Politics of Vision”.
I’ve loved getting to know Puebla, and there is still so much more for me to get to know. Here are some photos from around Puebla.
Last week we visited Museo Amparo, and today we will visit Museo Regional de Cholula. Museo Amparo was massive, and amazing. I certainly need to return.
I also created a “Puebla Bucket List” of sorts for the rest of my time here. Here are some of the things on the list. The crossed off items are things I have completed:
Visit Xanenetla (there is a lot of street art here)
Try pulque
Visit Cholulah
Find a cafe I love
Havemole poblanoTry lots of different mezcals :)
Thanks for reading! More to come next week.
