A bit about me
I’ve been making art since as long as I can remember. I grew up in a house where art was celebrated. I learned later in life that this was special. My mother made sure I was always taking an art class of some kind, and encouraged us to draw, paint, explore, play, and most importantly– make art for the joy of it. Now, I have an art practice of my own, something I thought I would never do, especially after attending Design school for 5 years.
Why “Catdroool”?
My cat, Special Agent Dale Cooper, drools when he’s happy. I thought this was amazing when I learned it. Apparently lots of cats do this. Anyway, it brings me immense joy. And it’s silly. My art practice was born out of seeking joy, and it’s definitely a bit silly at times.
A big change
I recently decided to invest fully in my art and design practice and work for myself. In 2023 I will be exploring this new adventure of self employment, and all the ups and downs it has to offer.
I’ll be kicking off this journey with an artist residency in Puebla, Mexico with the organization Arquetopia. [My residency is delayed a week from its original days, thanks to our good friend Covid, but I’m still excited to head down there soon.]
Why start a substack?
So much of the art we consume these days lives in tiny, transactional digital squares on a screen that fits inside the palm of our hand. Art was never meant to be consumed this way, yet it’s imperative to evolve, never be stagnant.
I started a substack to share more about my art– to provide more color, more stories. After all, I started making art seriously because I make things from my soul, and one day someone noticed, and then someone else noticed, and so on. My art is my healing practice, my joy, my expression, and my connection to community. Welcome to my community.
What to expect
I plan to use this outlet to share:
My inspiration: what/who is inspiring me and my work lately– whether it’s the leaves on the trees or an up and coming local artist
My stories: Why I’m making the art I am and what it means to me
