The year ain’t over, but it will be before we know it. I’ve experienced a ton of creative block this year, and have tried loads of things to move through it. One tactic that helps me is revisiting old work. It’s so easily forgotten, but it holds so much power.
Back in April I was going through a phase where I was being hyper-critical of myself and I found it difficult to draw. I found some scrap paper in our bin at Lot’sa, and cut it down into 4 inch squares. I carried them around everywhere, loose pages held together by a binder clip. It became my sketchbook for a month or so.
It took off some of the pressure seeing a blank sketchbook page and hoping it would turn into a masterpiece. It’s just a 4” square of scrap paper after all.
